I was in a discussion about QR (Quick Response – which are two dimensional barcodes), and was told about baseball cards using this data to generate 3D images. You hold the card up to your webcam, and on the screen you get an image.

QR codes are huge everywhere except for the US. There is a concept now of embedding songs into multicolored QR codes.
But they are not mainstream here – yet!

QR has a lot of applications. I’ve be thinking about their impact on the print side of publishing lately. It would be very easy for publishers to tag books with QR codes that allowed you to grab digital editions of the works for your Kindle or iPhone / iPod touch, or even a PDF (if that’s more your speed).
