Halo 3
Today is the release of Halo 3, a video game for the Xbox 360. It will be interesting to watch if the game hits the predictions of $200 million in the first week. Wired had a story last month about the unprecedented testing for the game. The real question is will gaming eventually overcome movies? More to come as the sales are totaled this week.
Some bad/good news – I was unable to login to XBox live tonight, so the volume has to be huge…
Palm Makes A Smart Move
Or at least I think so…
Jay passed me this link on Palm abandoning the Foleo. I think they made the right move and I’m really looking forward to their next phone.
Yesterday and today I am fighting in the trade show wars, so not much going on besides logistics and a lot of running around. Intel has a chopper on the show floor from that show with the Father an Son who fight. I really like that show, you’d think I could remember it’s name. It’s American something….
Digging Out (Part 2)
I finally got through all the email and comments I missed while off the grid. The latest Marketing Over Coffee Marketing Podcast is up, and I just watched my first baseball game in HD. Now I need to fix a faucet and see if wireless surround speakers are worth the upgrade. More to follow…
Verizon FIOS rocks.
Today I eat my words. If you follow The M Show you know the story of how I’ve said Verizon would have to pry my last dollar from my cold dead hand based on a squabble about 7 years ago. This was before my new BFF Daryl showed up this morning to turn the switch on for the glass tube that is now connected to Studio N.
Our past residence, Studio M had a Cable modem from a good company who I will keep nameless since I have no ill will towards them. Here’s the bandwidth I got:
That’s pretty darn fast, faster than anything else I’ve ever used. Just for fun I compared it to the pipe at work:
I knew that the download was crummy, but it’s interesting that upload was almost 2x. Of course this is worthless – 90% of your traffic is download and the majority of the 10% upload are text (filling out forms) so that’s wasted most of the time.
Then the glass pipe lit up:
Insane. I don’t think there are many services that can feed me that fast. You can take the SpeakEasy Speed Test here if you’d like to compare.
An interesting footnote – the Wireless B and G machines get around 6mb down, I only get the 20 on the Wireless N rig.
Game On! Marketing Over Coffee coming tomorrow…
Almost There
I’m siting in an apartment that is completely empty except for a broadband router, the only thing missing at Studio N. FIOS will be in the house on Tuesday and I’ll be back in the game.
We are back from hiatus on The M Show and you can listen to the long standing business podcast by clicking through.
The big news this week was C.C. Chapman leaving Crayon, there’s been a lot of chatter, but I know both C.C. and Crayon will both continue to succeed. Every new agency has to spend years getting the roster tuned, and really it’s a never ending process. The only difference with Crayon is that the entire social media peanut gallery gets to view a little further behind the curtain that ever before.
The never-ending battle continues!
Today is officially BlogDay, you can get the story and original recommendations in my previous post.
Just a few other things I read that are always great:
I’m a salesforce.com insider by reading SalesforceWatch.
On the small business tech font, and for Tales of Chicago check out Chicago Mike.
Most readers know I’m still going through Sex and the City withdrawal, The Pink Shoe Diaries help me cope.
As a comic fan (aka – Fanboy, aka – dork) Title Undetermined makes me laugh.
I’m also giving a second plug for Mike Champion because he needs a dose of the Google Juice, and mentioning GameSpot which is not a blog but still full of great info.
Rough Road Ahead
The boxes are getting filled and we are preparing for the move. The office where I do my writing is been destroyed so my posting may be sporadic over the next week. I’ll be limited to when I’m on my laptop at home and that’s about it. The scanner has been packed up too so no Friday Night Fights, or other wacky photos until the box reopens.
The summer doldrums continue with everyone waiting until the decision makers get back from vacation. A good time to clean up your lists and get ready for Q4.
Libsyn seems to have their domain issues straightened out so there will be a new M Show for you before you sync tomorrow morning.

Silent, but Still Deadly
Normally I cheap out on the Thursday post and brag about the latest episode of Marketing Over Coffee. We had a good discussion yesterday talking about trade shows, amongst other things. The bad news is that my hosting company, Libsyn is having a real run of bad luck. They’ve been having a hard time getting the stats package back up and running and now they are completely dark. This is the only service disruption I have ever had with them in almost 3 years of podcasting 5 different shows.
This is one of those moments where you realize how important it is to have control of your feed. The primary feed for The M Show is http://www.themshow.com/feed which then redirects to my libsyn feed. So if this continues I just redirect to someplace else, or write my own feed and I’m back in business. You need to ask yourself if you are building an audience for yourself, or for your hosting company, or for feedburner, or somebody else.
For $5 a month I really can’t complain since I’m getting unlimited bandwidth, but it is a bummer to be down as Marketing Over Coffee continues to gain momentum. So, this is kind of a lame post but at least it’s not a bunch of compiled twitter updates or bookmarks from del.icio.us
I’m tired, and I’m off to bed…
Quincy Jones
This morning on my way into work I listened to Podcast 411. The host, Rob Walch, interviews Quincy Jones. When I saw it downloading in iTunes I thought “It can’t be THAT Quincy Jones, as in THE Quincy Jones“. But it is, and it is fantastic. Not only is he fun to listen to but he’s also uplifting and motivating.
“The melody is the only thing that comes straight from God” – Quincy Jones
I laughed at number of the stories, and overall I found it funny because, like any story told by someone over 50 years old they tend to run off in more than one direction. But unlike your crazy uncle Stan, whose stories run from Aunt Petunia, to the dog food factory in Kansas, to the time they met some baseball player you never heard of, Mr. Jones’ stories run from Miles Davis to Frank Sinatra, to Paul McCartney, around Michael Jackson, with the occasional world leader thrown in along with enough Grammys to fill a small pickup truck.
If any part of the music Quincy Jones has done is a favorite of yours, go check it out now.
