Stuff That is Good For You

So it’s been a busy week. I had a wedding to go to on Monday (yes, different, I know, but it ended up at Finale, which is a wonderful thing), so I’ve been playing catch up ever since.

Important things for you:

This week’s Marketing Over Coffee podcast is up and I’m going to see if I can get a player to work right here:

Direct Link to File

I failed to include a link in the last post to Scott Monty, it’s because it was 1am and I was going to add in a link to one of his Sherlock sites and then never went back to it.

I’ve also got a partially written post from my discussions with The Smartest Man in the World (who just jumped from #9 up to #3 in Google! Go Saul!), but some of it ties into a super secret project that I am working on that will not roll out until June, so it may be a while on that. ’til then check out the funky cartoon thing he’s playing with, it’s very cool.

Podcasting Stats

I’m just too tired to write anything today, the 5:30 am recording sessions will do that, but if you are a stats junkie, along with the latest show we’ve published the numbers for Marketing Over Coffee for you to check out.

Lots of emailing this week. Interesting stats but nothing exciting to write about…

Wall Street Journal Approved

Thanks to the hard work of Scott Monty of Crayon working with ooVoo, I was part of my ooVoo day, which makes me a “prominent blogger” according to the Wall Street Journal. Now all I need is a link…

You can also check out the St. Patrick’s Day edition of The M Show for some easy listening fun.

Ode to Fry’s

Fry's ElectronicsAs part of the normal trade show routine I buy a monitor. It’s usually around $175 to rent one vs. $250 to buy one, so the first time we do a show in a town we buy a monitor and the local rep gets to use it for the rest of the year. We even do the same thing with some 40 inch monitors where we have bigger shows.

I hit the online fliers to see who’s got the best sales, this week it happened to be Office Max, although I chose a monitor based on the fact that it had internal speakers – which completely suck.

I’ve heard about Fry’s Electronics, but I had never been to one so I decided to swing over there just to see what they were about. The place is geek heaven. It’s about 4 times the Best Buy near my house and has the same stuff they carry plus a lot more components, toys, and other random stuff like pepper spray.

On top of that there’s a whole Raiders of the Lost Ark temple theme going on in the place. Worth a trip just to see, or if you need a $799 case for the next computer that you are going to build.

Speed Chronicles 2

Speed Test

Burdened with a compulsion to measure technology I did a speed test today now that I finally got my new Palm Centro pimped out to serve as wireless modem. I’ve used PDANet on my Palm 600, but the new version takes advantage of the expanded service that the Centro uses:

The top two boxes are via cellular modem, the bottom two is the same box via FIOS. So the good news is that the Centro is about 20x faster than the Treo 600 was. Uploads are just more than 3 times faster. Not bad considering it’s for situations where there’s no wireless of any kind. Also interesting to note that it’s half as good as my connection at work (although we’ve upgraded and I think work is now about twice as fast).

If you don’t have FIOS and you want to make yourself cry, check out past speed tests. I’d also love to see your speed test results, you can check your speed here.
